Itinerary
Sept. 13: ARRIVE HONG KONG
Sept. 14: HONG KONG (B) Enjoy a half day seat in coach Hong Kong island tour including the Victoria Peak, Repulse Bay and the Aberdeen Fishing Village.
Sept. 15: DEPART HONG KONG – BANGKOK - SIEM REAP ARRIVAL (B/ D) Dinner at hotel.
Sept. 16: SIEM REAP (B/L) This morning you will visit the monumental magnificence of Angkor Thom - last capital of the Khmers, with its Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King and the stunning Bayon temple. This 12th century masterpiece lies at the very centre of Angkor Thom and is an archaeological wonder of symmetry and grandeur. The exterior gallery walls have extensive bas-reliefs but the highlight is the "faces", more than 200 of them, silent but with the famous half-smile playing on their lips. Lunch at Sugar Palm Restaurant This afternoon, you will visit Angkor Wat, the largest temple in the world, with a volume of stone equaling that of the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. It is unlike all the other Khmer temples in that it faces west, and is inspired by 12th Century Hinduism. Conceived by Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat took an estimated 30 years to build and is generally believed to have been a funeral temple for the king. Intricate bas-reliefs surround Angkor Wat on four sides and each tells a story. Late afternoon, see the sunset from Angkor Wat. Overnight at selected hotel, Siem Reap
Sept. 17: SIEM REAP (B/D) This morning, you will visit Ta Prohm, the temple that has been left largely in its natural state since its "re-discovery" by French explorers. Surrounded by jungle, its labyrinth of stone hallways is overgrown with the roots and limbs of massive banyan trees, which envelop the stone like tentacles. It is one of the largest temples at Angkor, dedicated in 1186. Historians have noted its mystical charm. You will continue to visit Preah Khan and Neak Pean "The Sacred Sword", an extensive monastic complex covering over 56 hectares built by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a monastery and teaching complex. It is one of a group of temple complexes situated on a small 'Baray'. Preah Khan is the site of the World Monuments Fund 'prime' Asian project a painstaking renovation whilst maintaining it’s mysterious allures and superb original structure. This afternoon, you drive to Banteay Srei; the citadel of women - a tiny, enchanting temple, which is one of the jewels in this remarkable city. Built of red sandstone in the tenth century and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, the carved male and female figures in the niches are exquisitely executed in both style and proportion. This is the most Indian of all the temples in Angkor and in the words of H.W. Ponder, is a fairy palace in the heart of an immense and mysterious forest. Farewell dinner with Cultural Dance Show
Overnight at selected hotel, Siem Reap Free at leisure until transfer to Siem Reap pier for the Jayavarman Cruise.
"Waterworld" ![]() Tonle Sap Lake is the heart of Cambodia. It is filled with more fish than any other lake, and surrounded by vast numbers of rare birds. Enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding well organized rice paddy plains, as well as a travelers blessing performed by the local monks. After lunch and a short cruise downstream we drop anchor at the shores of Kampong Cham. Visit Wat Nokor, a wat built within the ruins of an ancient temple that holds a timeless story. Sept. 25: ARRIVE HO CHI MINH CITY (SAIGON) ![]()
Your cruise with The Jayavarman comes to a close as the ship winds its way to Saigon through the UNESCO listed Mangrove Biosphere Reserve. During the Vietnam War, it had been destroyed, but amazingly the 75 hectares have come back to life through reforestation efforts. Saigon, surely one of the most evocative place names in Asia and definitely one of the most extraordinary cities in the world. The most Western in atmosphere of Vietnam's cities, Ho Chi Minh City (to use it's official name - although to residents and visitors alike it is universally and affectionately known as Saigon) has a population of 5 million, and a booming free-market economy. It is a city of amazing contrasts: elegant new international hotels, exclusive restaurants and trendy bars side-by-side with roadside noodle stalls, street children and vociferous cyclo drivers. Golf courses, bowling alleys and shopping malls vie for space with fruit and vegetable markets, pagodas and karaoke rooms. Bustling, booming, crowded, noisy - all words that barely scratch the surface of the addictive and often mesmerising chaos that is Saigon. And yet there are the elegant colonial French boulevards and buildings, the Cathedral, the riverfront, the quiet moments at a sidewalk cafe watching the world literally go by you at breakneck speed. Saigon. A city that is almost indescribable and completely unforgettable. Designed for travellers keen on experiencing the diversity of Vietnam, but with limited time. You'll take in Vietnam's two key cities: beautiful Halong Bay and the rich culture of Hoi An and Hue in central Vietnam. After disembarking the Jayavarman at 10:00am, you will be met our professional guide at Saigon pier and transferred to your hotel ACCOMMODATION: HOTEL IN SAIGON
